Del Potro Targets Post U.S. Open Return in November.

May 19, 2010

In a blow to the summer U.S. hard court season, defending U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro will not return to Flushing Meadows to defend his title there in the hopes he can make a full return to action this November. Speaking to reporters in Argentina after flying back from a check-up at the Mayo Clinic where he recently had wrist surgery, Del Potro spoke about his health and his decision to take more time off to allow for a full recovery.

Speaking about the U.S. Open, Del Potro said, “The tournament is and always will be very special for me, all my life, but I don’t want to rush things.” He later went on to say, “I don’t want to get desperate in rehab and I’m comfortable with the fact that if I do my time I’ll be playing again on the circuit.” he said.

Del Potro stated that his next event could be the Paris Indoors Masters series event in Bercy, France in November. Until then, he will continue his rehab in his hometown of Tandil. Del Potro, who pulled out of the French Open coming up this week, has not played a match since the fourth round of the Australian Open.
