Roddick Survives Querrey’s 32 Aces; Meets Verdasco in San Jose.

February 13, 2010

A commentator during the Rotterdam matches today said that Andy Roddick finished 2009 as the leader in winning tiebreaks for the ATP. It looks like Roddick may earn that title again as he had to win two more tonight in his 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-6 (4) win over fellow American Sam Querrey.

Despite never being broken in the match and serving 32 aces, Querrey lost the serving battle to Roddick who was able to secure the second set tiebreak after winning both Querrey’s serving points to go up 5-4 in the final breaker before closing it out.

Roddick will now face Fernando Verdasco who took care of surprise semifinalist Dennis Istomin 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Roddick is 9-2 lifetime against the Spaniard, winning their last meeting in Canada at the 2009 Rogers Cup.
