ATP Pros Hope For “Spiritual” Success in Kooyong.

January 12, 2010

The last warm-up event of the Aussie season kicks off this week with the AAMI Classic in Kooyong, Melbourne where several of the top ATP pros will get a chance to compete against each other before play begins next week at the Australian Open.

Even though Roger Federer decided not to play, the field includes Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro, Robin Soderling, Fernando Gonzalez, Fernando Verdasco and more.

Site of the Australian Open for many years when it was played on grass, the Kooyong event bills itself as the “spiritual home of Australian Tennis”. I’m not sure if any of the players plan to ask for their own shaman or medicine man to help guide them to victory but it couldn’t hurt given the recent long odds recently posted for some of them in Melbourne next week.
