Henin Celebrates (SMP Images)

The new incarnation of Justine Henin resumed her previous winning ways as she entered the finals of the Brisbane International with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Ana Ivanovic.

The match was an error prone affair as both players struggled to hold serve throughout the match. But Henin was able to find winners at the right time while Ivanovic went hot but mostly cold in her losing effort.

After listening to her post-match interview with AO Radio, I was struck by how calm and upbeat Henin is in her press encounters. Henin is trying to be more open and communicative which should not only help her stay mentally fresh but could also earn her more fans unlike her previous guarded persona which rubbed some people the wrong way especially after her bizarre default to Amelie Mauresmo at the Australian Open finals.

If part of Henin’s comeback includes media training, it’s working. And even if she doesn’t win Brisbane, Henin’s proved she’s the player to watch in Melbourne.
