Serena and Venus – Are the Stars Aligning For an all-Williams Final?

July 1, 2009

The likelihood of an all Williams sister final on Saturday grows stronger as both Venus and Serena scored impressive wins today in the quarterfinals. Venus brushed aside Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-2 while Serena Williams struggled a bit but easily won against rising star Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 6-3.

Venus now must face Dinara Safina. This could be tricky as Safina is playing better on the grass but I expect Venus’s power and experience to prevail. Serena now faces Elena Dementieva who has quietly made her way to the final four. Dementieva’s groundstrokes are solid but one has to expect Serena to get through, maybe in three sets.

So then who wins the Williams backyard brawl? Let’s save that for next time.
